Electronics Technician – Building Systems


 

The main purpose of this position is to maintain and install integrated systems in order to optimise building electronics systems at the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), and also to enhance engineering value through appropriate technology application and prudent maintenance techniques.



Detailed Description


The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

· Interpret the technical scope of critical projects (related to the built environment), and oversee quality output (from design to testing/commissioning) according to agreed user requirement specifications (URSs) or the real estate strategy of the SARB.

· Apply the approved maintenance strategy, work instructions (WIs), engineering instructions (EIs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for technical equipment to ensure proper maintenance and optimal use of assets.

· Perform high-tech diagnosis for sub-systems by applying a set of latest techniques in the electronics building systems discipline.

· Execute preventative and corrective maintenance in the systems or equipment, and report on predictive sub-system failure, to enhance system capability (using proactive preventative techniques).

· Critically interpret WIs and drawings concerning construction, alterations/modifications, enhancement maintenance and specialist projects.

· Apply statutory principles in order to comply with the safety, health and environmental (SHE) requirements, manage the quality assurance process on work done for adherence to industry requirements, and report on any non-compliance.

· Consult or engage stakeholders towards the drawing or preparation of URSs and/or scope of work (SOW) for project and maintenance of electronics building-related systems/equipment.

· Work closely with external engineering contractors and supporting specialists towards optimisation of technology and enhancements of system efficiencies through service level agreements (SLAs).

· Carry out electronic installations of building systems which include sensors, probes, actuators, variable frequency drives, heat/smoke detection systems, etc.



Job Requirements


To be considered for this position, candidates must be in possession of:

· a National Diploma in Electronic/Electrical Engineering or equivalent;

· registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA); and

· at least five years of job-related experience after obtaining professional registration.

Additional requirements include:

· Tridium Niagara N4 certification;

· working experience in smart building integration solutions;

· working experience in projects and safety compliance,

· working experience in building management systems and integration of various building systems (HVAC, electrical power distribution, backup power, lifts, lighting, IoT, etc.)

· knowledge of:

- the National Building Regulations (NBR);

- relevant South African National Standards (SANS);

- safety-related legislation, regulations and standards, including (but not limited to) the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 (OHS Act);

- basic design tools/packages like AutoCAD;

- a document management system (e.g. AutoDesk BIM360);

· skills in:

- analysis and problem-solving;

- judgement and decision-making;

- system analysis;

- planning, coordinating and organising;

- critical thinking;

- verbal and written communication;

- team dynamics; and

- client focus and stakeholder management.
