Junior Shift Supervisor

PURPOSE

This position exists to optimally manage the shifts and the site in the absence of the site manager eg. Cost, SHEQ-C and discipline to achieve contract objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

MEASUREDPRODUCTIONFIGURES(CPIS)

Establish time cycles and set Operators targets.

Monitoring and measurements operators target (per shift, per operator). Controlling the KPI’s according to the Supervisors/Operators targets & give performance feedback.

Investigate if the targets are not met, find the problem discuss with Shift supervisor and find a solution.

Monitor the site conditions.

Physical checking of the site and complete a checklist/risk assessment.

Risk assessment /checking and monitoring of a Site should be done on daily basis, per shift (safety controls).

Pursue innovative opportunities to reduce costs.

Control overtime and any other ways to minimise costs.

Find possible solutions in minimising the costs on site. Calculations to measure tons yield.

MANAGED OF SHEQ-C SYSTEMS ON SITE

Conduct a pre-shift meeting. Check prestart files of Shift Supervisors. Housekeeping on site. Obtain and apply SHEQ-C standards and procedures aligned with client SHEQ-C programme.

Inspect the workplace and identify risks. Compile risk assessments and do training on risk assessments.

Inspections on accountability files.

Update pre site establishment files. Attend client safety meetings. Inform Employees about SHEQ-C standards. Make sure employees are competent on mine standards (medical induction sops). Conduct PTO’s (Planned Task observations).

MANAGED CONSUMABLES

Control usage of magnetite & flocculent. Closely control usage of consumables i.e., PPE.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

Policies & procedures. Control absenteeism & lateness. Address poor performance & misconduct behavior. Managed employee relations and attend ER forum. Control timesheet’s/overtime.

CUSTOMER RELATIONS

Daily interact with clients to ensure good relations. Act quickly on the client requests.

PLANT MANAGEMENT

Optimising plant utilization in the production. Minimize plant abuse. Ensure plant & equipment are well maintained. Availability of plant.

MANAGED PLANNED OPERATIONS

Planning & implement daily and weekly work schedules. Plan shift work with Shift Supervisors. Ensure the optimum utilization of labour. Ensure cost effective utilization of plant.

QUALIFICATIONS

Grade 12 with Maths and Science

Basic Coal Preparation Certificate

EXPERIENCE

2 years' experience as a multi-skilled operator

2 years' experience in plant operation
