Position Purpose:
To investigate and review architectural design scope, provide design solutions, prepare and develop technical documentation
and drawings; and ensure the efficient and effective delivery of infrastructure projects within the specific technical department
of Architecture.
# Once registered with SACAP as Pr. Technologist, to assume the professional responsibility of well-defined architectural
activities and problem solving for the scope ,cost and schedule on all phases or stages of the various projects assigned to the
individual.
# To accept the architectural responsibility and design coordination regarding quality assurance in terms of the relevant Acts,
for the quality of the execution of projects assigned to the individual.
Position outputs:
If not registered with SACAP as Pr. Arch Tech, the position holder will provide technical and drawing support, and assist
other professionals in the outputs as listed below.
# Once registered with SACAP as Pr. Arch Technologist, the position holder will be the architectural lead on segment-only
projects for the various projects assigned to the individual, (on a level of well-defined activities and problem solving) in
accordance with the individual’s qualification as Pr. Arch Technologist, being responsible for the outputs below.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
# Adhering to Transnet National Port Authority Engineering suite of Procedures, Directives and Guidelines.
# Planning the work efforts, assigning responsibilities, establishing goals and monitoring the progress of architecture and
design effort assigned to specific projects such that the project objectives are achieved on schedule and within budget
# Establishing and maintaining relationships with all stakeholders at various levels and actively assist management on issues
related to engineering service performance, including implementation of corrective actions.
# Creating and maintaining effective communication channels between team members and with the project managers and
ensuring coordination and cooperation between all stakeholders occurs.
# Conducting surveys and measure sites to ensure that projects can be carried out successfully.
# Ensuring that the architectural designs and applications comply with all statutory, regulatory, safety, health and quality
requirements whilst ensuring environmental and business sustainability.
# Doing in-depth drawing reviews of all design documents including constructability and HAZOP reviews
# Preparing architectural technical documentation and drawings and arranging squad-checks for in-depth review of such
documentation.
# Identifying any scope creep and discussing problems with other team members
# Proactively recommending and implementing corrective strategies where needed
to best meet Transnet’s overall project objectives
# Compiling man-hour cost estimates for the architectural inputs into projects to
ensure proper management of such budgets
# Assisting the project team in developing a project schedule that is in line with the
drawings and the outline of the work so that projects are done within the required
quality standards, budget and time frames
# Liaising with clients and contractors regarding architectural aspects of the projects
as and when necessary.
# Ensuring that the system for “Quality Management during the Construction phase”
is effectively implemented and managed on all relevant projects, to ensure the
segment’s compliance with the relevant Acts
# Ensuring compliance with Transnet drawing standards
# Ensure individual behavior and technical service is conducted in line with the
relevant Architect’s Act
# Carrying out the required submissions, inspections, and testing of relevant projects
to enable the segment to certify such projects as “Safe for Operations” within
authorised level
# Perform engineering management and project management functions as and when
required.
Qualifications & Experience:

# A National Diploma or
equivalent in Architecture (in
the relevant architectural
studies) is required.
# Professional Registration as a
Technologist with SACAP (Pr.
Technologist, if not, be eligible
to register within six (6)
months.
# Minimum 5 years of
experience.
