The incumbent will ensure the smooth and cost-effective flow of products imported from approximately 15 supply points around the globe, as well as outbound transportation to approximately 2,500 delivery points in South Africa and neighboring countries, comprising of wholesalers, distributors, retailer DC’s, retail chain stores, supermarkets, hair salons, spas, and dermatologists.
KEY JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Manages the relationships and Service Level Agreements with freight forwarders, clearing agents and transport providers, and identifies continuous improvement opportunities.
- Budgeting and cost control of annual expenditure in excess of R100 million.

Participates in annual Global Freight Forwarding tender for inbound flows: analyses rate offers, selects and on-boards most appropriate forwarders.- Initiates and runs periodic tenders for outbound transport: compiles tender specifications and benchmarking data, analyses tender offers, recommends most appropriate carriers, and manages contracting and on-boarding of selected carriers.
- Initiates and runs periodic tenders for customs clearing and local forwarding of inbound flows: compiles tender specifications and benchmarking data, analyses tender offers, recommends most appropriate Clearing agent, and manages contracting and on-boarding of selected Clearing agent.
- Identifies and implements initiatives to reduce Transport CO₂ emissions in support of L’Oreal For The Future (L4TF) sustainability targets.
- Daily liaison with parcel carrier to identify and resolve real or potential service failures.
- Supports Divisions, Customer Care & Credit and DC teams with transport-related matters.
- Stays informed of estimated arrival and delivery dates of import shipments, liaises with Clearing agent, and keeps Divisional Supply Chain Managers informed in this regard.
- Establishes budgets and periodic trend updates for outbound transport and approach (inbound) costs, by Division/Business Unit; analyses and provides feedback on variations versus previous years and/or trends.
- Works with the L’Oreal South Africa Sustainability Lead to set annual Transport CO₂ reduction targets.
- Monthly reporting of outbound transport and approach costs, by Division/Business Unit; analyses and provides reasons for variations vs. budget or trend.
- Bi-annual calculation and reporting of Transport CO₂ emissions.
- Calculates Landed cost factors by Division and supplier annually to determine Standard costs of products.
- Provides landed cost estimates for planned new product launches when requested by Divisions.
- Operations Customs referent (L’Oreal South Africa and L’Oreal Midrand Manufacturing)
- Responsible to ensure Customs compliance by L’Oreal and its Clearing agents.
- Acts as primary contact with L’Oreal DGO team regarding local Customs matters.
- Liaison with SARS Customs & Excise on specific Customs topics, including audits, special valuation determinations, retroactive price adjustments, etc.
- Responsible to ensure L’Oreal’s 10 Golden Customs rules are adhered to.

Validation of new customers’ delivery addresses and changes to existing addresses, for completeness, correctness, and conformity to parcel carrier’s city/suburb/postal code combination master file.
